Overview Kralendijk

Kralendijk is a small and quiet town along the west coast of Bonaire. The Dutch built a fortress to protect Bonaire against other nations. In early years, everyone could see Fort Orange from a distance.

Next to this fort, near a square called Plasa Wilhelmina (Wilhelmina Square), is another old Dutch building, called Bestuurskantoor (government office). A white and yellow gate surrounds this office, but between the bars, you will have an excellent view at this building. Close to this square, is another old building called the Pasangrahan. Next to this building, you will see a yellow customs office, restaurated a few years ago.

Kaya Grandi ('Main Street') at Kralendijk has some souvenir shops and other shops. Most supermarkets are in the vicinity where you can buy European and American food.

Walking along the coast at Kaya Craane, you will see dozens of anchored sailboats. Most sailors are retired and live on these boats, some work at Bonaire. From Kralendijk walking north, you will see Harbour Village Marina. On your way to this marina, local people will welcome you. Local fishermen have small boats to catch and sell fish. (wahoo, dorado, tunny)

Near Harbour Village Marina, about 20 minutes walking from Kralendijk along the coast (Kaya Playa Lechi), you will have a nice view from Kaya Playa Lechi at Kralendijk.
